Finished Owl

I finished to quilt my owl this morning and I fused the binding on and embellished it with one the fancy stitch on my Bernina.

I put the owl on the side while I was working on a commissioned fabric photo album.

It's for a little girl's first birthday, so the grand mother asked me to use pink and purple fabrics, my favorites!

I first decided on the strips layout and fused them onto a rectangle of heavy muslin

I embellished each strip with threads, ribbons, using one of the fancy stitch on my Bernina

I then added some flowers, beads and butterflies

I added some Fast to Fuse Timtex covered with pink fabric, where I  embroidered the name of the little girl

I used a pretty velvet cord that I enclosed between the fabric strips and the Timtex and fused everything together
The cord will hold the pages together

I couched a silk thread all around the book

I then added the pages and tied the velvet cord in the middle

And now, back to my owl and free motion quilting!

Hoot Hoot!

I was asked to come up with an owl design in order to (hopefully!) teach a class, so here it is :

I then decided to use Susan Carlson collage technique

I only used scraps of fabric I had left from previous projects, a good way to use them...
A bit messy,  but how much fun!

When satisfied with my design, I cut out this beauty and I have now to find the right fabric as a background

I am taking a monthly class named "Research and Creation" and our teacher challenged us to make something with this ....

We are allowed to add anything to this selection and I have a "Buddha" paper napkin I am thinking about  using...

I prepared the piece of wall paper, tearing the edges...

After cutting out my paper napkin, I used some Modge Podge to stick the different layers

I then had to use the ribbons... I liked the idea of using the white one but the two purple didn't inspire me at all! Anyway, I wanted this exercise to look like a shrine (in some way...)

                                                                This is the final project

Blog revival...

It's been more than 3 years since I last posted anything here.

Life changing 3 long years... Some good things happened, but some others are still weighing on me, the most difficult one is being apart from my children, my friends and my country. But life goes on and I can't complain, I have a nice old house that needs a lot of fixing but my sewing room is great (thanks to my hubby!) and it's a pleasure to come in here every day and work on some projects.
I call it the "Quilting Diva studio"...

In December, I had fun participating to a local Christmas market and it was quite a success, I made lots of useful little things (jewelry bags, luggage tags, mini wall hanging, cards, etc...) and some more artistic things like the "Fairy" shoes, bowls and fabric leaves.

I was also commissioned to make 3 "Fairy" shoes for a friend.
I really enjoyed making them and it's always fun to come up with new ideas of embellishments!

I also just finished a special order to make a "Drums box", birthday present from a mom to her son who  is into African drums
